You work remotely: the DTV
The Destination Thailand Visa is the big development of this decade: 5 years of visa for €270 for anyone working remotely for clients or companies outside Thailand. You enter in periods of 180 days. The real requirement is proving ฿500,000 (~€13,000) in savings. We've dedicated an entire guide to it, because it's the route most of our clients under 50 take.
You're 50 or older: the Non-O
The classic retiree route (though it doesn't actually require being retired, just the age): €70 fee, annual renewal, and funds of ฿800,000 (~€21,000) in a Thai bank or income of ฿65,000/month (~€1,700). A company hires you there: the Non-B
If a Thai company hires you (or you're a teacher), it sponsors your Non-B (€120) and the work permit. No company, no Non-B: it's the visa you can't "arrange" from outside, and be wary of anyone who tells you otherwise.
You're going to study: the ED
Enrolling at an approved school — a university, a Thai-language school or even a licensed muay thai gym — gets you the Non-ED (€80), extendable up to a year. It's the flexible route for under-50s who don't yet bill remotely. Immigration has gotten serious about "ghost schools": the school has to be real and you have to actually show up to class.

Can I chain tourist visas?
Less and less: immigration detects the pattern and can deny entry. With legal routes from €70-270, living off border runs in 2026 is a bad strategy.
